Community Awareness: Cychlorphine — The Opioid Your Drug Test Can't See
What it is: Cychlorphine (N-propionitrile chlorphine) is an orphine-class opioid. It is not a fentanyl analogue.
The danger: Fentanyl test strips do not detect it, and routine urine screens do not catch it. Only specialized lab testing finds it. The DEA's lab first picked it up in Florida in April 2024. It has been tied to at least 55 deaths across the country in 2025–2026, including 41 in Tennessee. In August 2026, the DEA placed it on temporary Schedule I.
What to do: If someone overdoses: give naloxone, call 911, and help them breathe. If they don't come around, give another dose every two to three minutes. Carry more than one dose.
